Alaea red sea salt is a traditional Hawaiian sea salt colored naturally by a small addition of ‘alaea (red volcanic clay rich in iron oxides). Its clean salinity, mineral nuance and striking color make it perfect for finishing, marinades and BBQ.

Culinary uses

- Butter & breads: top cultured butter, cornbread or focaccia.
How to use
- Add late/off-heat: preserves crunch and color.
- Color note: the natural red clay can tint liquids; for clear sauces, finish on the plate.
- Grinders: suitable if using coarse crystals; keep away from steam to prevent clumping.
Dosage & kitchen ratios
- Finishing per portion: ~1–2 pinches (≈ 0.3–0.6 g), to taste.
- Dry rubs: 1 tsp salt per 500 g meat + preferred spices.
- Pasta water: ~10 g per 1 l water.
