Holly Hook Mallow

Dried blossoms for gentle teas, syrups & light desserts

Dried hollyhock/mallow blossoms add a soft, floral note and a naturally elegant color to teas and sweet preparations. Use them on their own or blended with other edible flowers and citrus zest.

  • Botany: Alcea spp. / Malva spp. • Family: Malvaceae
  • Part used: whole blossoms (dried)
  • Profile: delicate floral, mild, lightly herbaceous
  • Best for: tisanes/teas, light syrups, panna cotta/creams, fruit, decorative garnish

Brewing & Basic Ratios

  • Hot tea: 1–2 tsp (≈0.5–1 g) blossoms per 250 ml water at ~95 °C; steep 5–7 min; strain.
  • Cold infusion (color-forward): 2 tsp per 250 ml cool water; steep 30–60 min; strain.
  • Syrup base: 1–2 Tbsp per 500 ml water; simmer 2 min, steep off-heat 10–15 min; strain; sweeten 1:1 with sugar.

Culinary Uses

  • Teas & blends: combine with rose or elderflower; add citrus peel for lift.
  • Desserts: infuse milk/cream for panna cotta, custards or ice cream; strain for a smooth finish.
  • Fruit & yogurt: drizzle with a quick mallow syrup; garnish with a few crumbled petals.
  • Garnish: sprinkle over cakes, pavlovas or breakfast bowls just before serving.

How to Use

  • Infuse & strain: for clear flavor and a clean texture in liquids.
  • Add late/off-heat: preserves delicate aroma and color.
